An era of green energy: Edda Wind launches «Enabler» line with naming of “Sudri Enabler”

Haugesund, May 4, 2024

Today, Edda Wind ASA (“Edda Wind” or the “Company”) celebrated the naming ceremony of “Sudri Enabler”. The vessel then became the first in the company’s new line of vessel names. The traditional ceremony took place at Gondan Shipbuilders in Spain.

The Lady Sponsor was Martha Kold Monclair, board member in Edda Wind ASA.

Sudri comes from Nordic mythology and represents one of the four characters (Sudri, Nordri, Vestri and Austri) holding up the sky after it was made by the Gods from the skull of Ymir.

The new vessel’s name was not chosen at random. All vessels at Edda Wind will be renamed «[ship name]» + «Enabler» – as part of the company’s promise to enable green energy and a greener future.

Importantly, Edda Wind are only changing the vessels’ names while the company branding is not changed. Edda Wind is already a strong name in the market, and the company name will remain.

“Starting with our latest newbuild, our vessels will carry the name  «ENABLER» as a visual, constant and strong reminder to ourselves and our customers of our vision and our expertise. We welcome “Sudri Enabler” to our fleet and will begin the renaming process of the rest of our fleet soon”, says Kenneth Walland, CEO Edda Wind.

Prepared for emission-free operations

“Sudri Enabler” is a purpose-built Commissioning Service Operation vessel (CSOV) designed with unparalleled flexibility and operability, prepared for emission-free operations with a hydrogen based propulsion system. Edda Wind’s SOVs and CSOVs are designed to set a new standard in the offshore wind market. Every effort has been made in the design to maximize the efficiency of operations in the wind farm. The vessel will serve as mother vessel for wind turbine technicians as they perform commissioning and maintenance work on offshore wind turbines. The CSOV is 88.3 in length and can accommodate up to 120 persons in total.

“Yet another milestone for Edda Wind. I want to thank everyone contributing to making this day so special. Thank you to Gondan Shipyard for their effort in building this vessel, and same to all others who have worked on this project. Also, a big thank you to Martha Kold Monclair for doing us the honor of being the Lady Sponsor”, says CEO in Edda Wind Kenneth Walland.
